What do you get when you cross a vortex with a tornado? – A Vornado. Add a heater and you have the concept behind the Vornado line of space heaters. According to the product description, “the vortex-action beam forces air towards the room's perimeter, thus heating the entire room, floor to ceiling, wall to wall.”

The actual vortex-action beam is created by a specially designed, tightly scrolled front grill which not only creates the vortex, but makes it impossible for little fingers to get anywhere near the heating element and fan.

The Vornado models described here are full room heaters. Vornado’s definition of a “full room” is 16’ x 16’ x 8’ ceiling height or 2048 cubic feet.

According to consumer reviews, the secret to maximizing the vortex of hot air is to locate the heater at one end of the room where it has a clear shot at the opposite wall. When the air hits the opposing wall it splits and is deflected back around the perimeter of the room to create a cycle of continuously re-circulated warm air. You can also fine tune the heater’s air flow efficiency by experimenting with minor adjustments to the heater’s placement.

Vornado offers a dozen or so models of full room heaters priced from around $60 to $180. They all employ the same vortex technology and safety features so the extra money you spend on higher priced models is for added features such as remote control, programmable thermostat, and fire resistant steel construction.

Highest Rated Vornado Space Heater (and also the least expensive)
The highest rated Vornado in terms of customer reviews is the EH1-0054-06. This newest addition to the lineup is also the least expensive. Its square cornered flat panel design is a departure from the traditional rounded look and makes it easily recognizable.

Two heat settings are available (750/1500 watts) along with thermostatic temperature control, automatic or continuous fan operation, tip over and overheat protection, and cool touch housing.

Best Selling Vornado Space Heater
The best selling Vornado is theEH1-0034-06 AVH2 Vortex Full-Room Electric Heater costing around $85.00.This is the heater you picture when you think of a Vornado and has been the mainstay of the lineup for many heating seasons.

Two heat settings of 800/1500 watts with automatic climate control that adjusts the heat output and fan speed to maintain a set temperature - meaning the room doesn't need to cool down for the heater to turn back on.

High End Vornado Space Heater
One of the more expensive ($145) Vornados is the EH1-0032-28 TouchStone 500. This model is recognizable by its fire resistant steel construction that stays cool to the touch.

This heater offers simple push-button top-mounted controls, a digital LCD screen to display the current settings, nine-hour timer, and a remote control (batteries included).
