When the cold of winter sets in and you require a little extra heat you don’t always need a full size space heater to make your surroundings comfortable. This is especially true if you work in a cubicle or don’t want to heat the entire room.

Fortunately, there are a number 400 watt space heaters to suit just about any situation. These are usually radiant heaters which excel at providing instant heat to your body and are not equipped with a fan, which is a plus if you or your co-workers are sensitive to noise.

Another benefit of 400 watt heaters is low cost operation. At 12¢ per kWh - the national average - it costs less than 5¢ per hour to operate. Here then are few suggestions for 400 watt space heaters with a brief description of each.

Optimus 5210 Infrared Heater(400 & 800 watt settings) Affordable and extremely quiet, the Optimus 5210 heats with the same quartz infrared technology used by heaters costing hundreds of dollars more.

NewAir AH-400 (400 watts) The NewAir features a flat panel design measuring 23 x 17.8 x 3.5 inches and is perfect for placement under a desk, along a wall, or in a cubicle at work.

Soleus Air MS-09 Oscillating Heater (400 & 800 watt settings) The disc shape of the Soleus Air focuses the heat where you want it. Good for computer stations or work benches. Some users object to the bright light emitted from the quartz halogen heating element.

Eco-heater 602 High-Efficiency Electric Panel Heater (400 watts) Mounts on the wall away from curious little fingers and can be painted to match the room’s décor. A simple on off switch controls the heater. Costing around $100, the Eco-heater is twice as expensive as the other space heaters described here.
